If NASA were Steampunk …

Steampunk is a genre of Science Fiction/Fantasy that imagines a world where modern technology and aesthetics are based on 19th century steam-powered industrial machinery. (Imagine a prosthetic arm which operates not by electronics but by cogs and wheels and finely-balanced weights.)

If NASA were steampunk, I imagine its control centre would look at little like the organ at Metropolitan United Church in Toronto, where I went to hear a friend of mine play a recital. Metropolitan’s organ is the largest pipe organ in Canada, and the console is exactly as intimidating as you would expect.

It really looks like the control panel for a steam-powered airship …

(My friend, by the way, played it like a boss.)
