Muskoka in Summer

Every time we go to our cottage in Muskoka, we drive past this amazing vista.

Once upon a time, it was not there – at least, we didn’t know it was there. The highway north ran through thick, dark forest, without relief. Then, some ten years ago, a construction project to widen the highway cut down the trees just in that spot, and suddenly this was visible.

Normally I’m not a big fan of cutting down trees, especially not to expand a highway that didn’t actually have all that much traffic on it anyway … but in this case, it’s hard to argue with the result.
