This past Saturday threatened rain, but I took my camera out anyway – to High Park – and I am so very glad I did.
In my experience, dull days are much better for wildlife photography, partly because the light is so much gentler on their fur and feathers, and partly because they are more active when the sun is not too bright.
About half an hour after I arrived the rain followed through on its threat, and I had to wrap a plastic bag around my camera to protect it. I also got lots of practice operating my camera with one hand while balancing my umbrella in the other.
This little Wood Duck was much less shy than the ones I saw at the Brickworks, but he still gave me a wide berth. He and his girlfriend scooted past just as the rain changed from drippy to drizzly, and I managed to catch him among the raindrops.
