Rose hips – especially fat, wrinkled ones like these, surrounded by yellowed leaves – are one of the signs I associate with the coming of winter. The red is actually translucent – the ambient light seems to come from inside the fruit. I found these ones on the grounds of Exhibition Place, growing in a bed beside a parking lot.
