I like taking photos of snails. They’re very patient subjects – they hardly move at all, no matter how long you take – and you can find them almost anywhere if you keep your eyes open. Their shells are always beautiful.

I like their shape. The conical spiral of the shell is at once a simple geometrical form and a complex mathematical formula. You can see the beauty of the form without understanding the formula, but knowing that the formula is there adds another aspect to the beauty.
