Winter Teazle

As winter makes its first assay into the Toronto area, with biting winds howling out of the north and west, I thought I would dig out a photo from last January, when I was just trying out my new camera for the first time.

This photo was taken in the Don Valley, near Todmorden Mills. I have always had a weakness for teazles – their structures are so delicate and complicated. I keep track of where they grow in the Don Valley, and I keep hoping to go past them sometime when they are in bloom. I never manage it – I only ever see them when they’re dry and spiky. I’m really curious to see what they look like as flowers.
