Golden-Crowned Kinglet

A friend of mine had a pair of golden-crowned kinglets in her garden this past weekend. They are tiny birds, only three and half inches long, and very shy. I have never seen them before, and getting a photo of them (or two or three) was really quite a coup for me.

At this time of year they are migrating south, and like goldfinches they stop in gardens to feast on the flowers that have gone to seed.
